Educators without Borders creates consultancies that support schools, districts and states to design, resource and implement small and large initiatives. We take a very unique approach to funding. Many customers want to change but lack the resources necessary to fund a project over time. Our approach to a consultancy is to secure funding and resources such as partnerships that support the program over time. At the outset of a consultancy we discuss vision, need, resources and capacity to implement and scale a intervention. We then document the need, design the initiative and match it to potential funding sources. What do our customers think about such an approach? Charlotte County Public Schools Director of Technology, Burlin Gregory sent us an email recently: "I personally can't thank you enough for what you've done
to support us. With you on our team it's hard to even imagine because the possibilities are infinite. You've been a great mentor and friend to us and it's very much appreciated." Thank you, Burlin August 2012.
We have been very successful over the past decade earning over $60 million in highly competitive grants. For example, Northampton County Public Schools on the Eastern shore of Virginia wanted to create a leadership development program that would provide them with a pool of vetted candidates for principalship. We designed a proposal that was one of 14 Education Leadership grants funded by the U.S. Department of Education for $600,000. In fact, the three reviewers each awarded the proposal 100 points each. The U.S. Department of Education posted the proposal as a national model. In Charlotte County Virginia, we were invited in by Advanced Learning Partnerships, the Dell North American Professional Learning provider to design a College Partnership Lab School model and submit a proposal for a planning grant to the Virginia Department of Education. It was one of only four awarded. Charlotte's plan included partners Dell, Advanced Learning Partnerships, High Tech High of San Diego California and Longwood University. A larger project involved developing a rural teacher residency program in Central Louisiana. The consortia of nine districts, two foundations and Louisiana State University (Cain Center) were awarded a US Department of Education Teacher Quality grant. It was the only rural teacher residency grant funded in the nation. Pre-service teachers earned a STEM content graduate degree. Louisiana students who passed the AP calculus exam with a "3" can literally be counted on one hand. Our vision was to flood 15 rural high schools with STEM master teachers to drive development of college going cultures. The $16 million dollar program is in its third year and continues to exceed expectations. Let us work with you to design a school, district or state teacher residency initiative, secure funding and help you implement and scale. This is the same model Finland uses to prepare its teachers.
